Childish Meanderings

I sat beneath the small apple blossom tree in my grandparent’s backyard letting the warm summer breeze brush over my body.  I watched a scattering of clouds dance across the ocean blue sky as the tree’s shadow cooled my sweat smeared skin.

Idyllic thoughts floated in my mind as I lay with my eyes shut against the mid afternoon sun.  I waited for the thoughts of childish dreams to escape my head and float up into the clouds to see where the wind would take them.

There was a world I had not seen, and still haven’t, that my thoughts have journeyed to, places I can only imagine being beautiful.  They left me to wonder what might have been if only I had reached for the tail of a cloud and held on until the life I knew was no longer a memory.
